I'm probably a bit behind the curve with this, but I only see the Christian Science Monitor when Gay finishes with her copy that comes to her about three weeks after publication. If this is old news, forgive me, but it bears repeating, no matter what.

I'm rather loving this new category of posts ... the "For the Greater Good" theme ... and intend to praise, plug and promote as many people and organizations I come across who are... more

I've missed my own anniversary.
One year ago, a couple of weeks back, I wrote my first post for this blog. My! how time flies when you're spending hours sitting around in front of a computer.
I wonder just how many words I've plopped down between this page and the older parent blog ... I didn't take that on until later, so it's not an OP anniversary -- thank goodness, as I don't need to mark another year down the drain over there ... all together.
I write at least 1000 words a day between the two blogs ... usually more, but... more
I normally post "Love Thursday" blogs on the Older Parent page, since I write that, too. Today, however, something strange is going on and that site won't let me in. Boo hoo, and drat! That being the case, this week's Love Thursday is going International, which is fine and dandy because it is ... international, I mean ...

One person making a difference in the lives of people ... I love running across stories about this.
From Whole Child International to Chances by Choice to Madonna's 'Raising Malwai', to Holly Richardson... more
I love stories about people taking action ... seeing problems, then setting their minds, hearts, brains and pocketbooks toward fixing situations that are not working, or not working as well as they could ... for the greater good.
With little motivation other than helping out, paying back ... and forward ... and possibly being selfish enough to want to feel good about personal accomplishments that have a positive impact on others, true heroes are made.

In the course of my normal morning research ... trawling for blog fodder is the description I like for this daily activity, as 'research' sounds so organized ... I tripped over Harlow's Monkey's blog post from a week or so ago titled "How to suppress discussions about transracial and transnational adoption".
Reading the long list of all the responses people ... it seems adoptive parents are one of the the main targets,... more

Since almost no one in the US was able to catch my family's appearance on CNN last weekend, I've downloaded a clip of our segment. It's not the greatest quality, but viewable. Please forgive the music, but I couldn't figure out how to do it without, and you can still hear the audio.
My kids look adorable, of course. Me? Well, I'm reminded why it is for the last 25 years or so I've much preferred doing radio.
This was a repackaged bit from a thirty-minute program aired locally on adoption issues in Seychelles.
I'll preface this litany of agony by repeating for the bazillionth time that, for many of the world's children, adoption into a loving, safe, warm family would be the most amazing and wonderful opportunity imaginable, and that anyone postulating a child is better off languishing in a birth country than adopted to another part of the world should shut up and volunteer to trade places with any kid in an orphanage or on the streets in pick-a-country-any-country.

Astoundingly to me, the situation that has developed, one in which there are now far more men than women ... see this al Jazeera report for an idea of the present imbalance ... has not increased the value of females.
