Lest anyone get the idea that Cambodia is much more dangerous than its neighbors, take a look at
this, that suggests otherwise.
Cambodia has banned its migrant laborers from working in insurgency-plagued southern Thailand due to safety concerns, an official said Thursday.
Thailand's southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat have been the scene of an Islamic insurgency that has led to more than 2,000 deaths in the past three years. The three provinces form the only Muslim-dominated area in the Buddhist-majority country.
In a letter to Cambodia's Labor Ministry, Foreign Minister Hor Namhong asked that all labor-exporting companies not send any workers to the Thai provinces that are currently "experiencing insecurity problems, including many killings."

It's all about the Band-Aid heiress and her "devastation" over Angelina getting to adopt from Cambodia while she couldn't.
Yuck.
Not only is it yucky, but it's also just plain wrong.
In 2001, Jolie adopted her first child, Maddox, from Cambodia with then-husband Billy Bob Thornton, but the Third World nation later cut off adoptions by foreigners amid accusations by child-welfare advocates of corrupt, babies-for-cash scams.
As we all know, that's not what happened AT ALL ... not that that would have any impact on how a 'news' story is presented, however.
Don't worry about the poor heiress, though. She eventually decided to adopt from Kazakhstan.
If you read the story, keep a barf bag handy. When you get to the part about "She's the most beautiful baby I've ever seen. She's blond-haired, blue-eyed ..." and how she'll be naming the child after her idol, Marilyn Monroe you'll be happy to have a receptacle near by.
And since you have the barf bag on hand anyway, get
this ...
There's this American guy who moved to Cambodia a few years ago because he wanted to have sex with young boys. He managed to do exactly that, but was charged under the US sex tourism law. He admitted to paying $21 dollars to do things to three boys aged 10 to 15. (And may I suggest that these are very likely not to be the only children he abused ... simply the ones he was caught abusing. Tip of the ice berg, and all that ... )
So, what's going to happen to Gary Jackson, retired carpenter and child abuser?
Nothing.
"Gary Jackson admits to committing despicable sexual acts with children -- acts that led to Jackson's arrest by the Cambodian police," Marsha Berzon wrote for a three-judge panel. "Yet his abhorrent conduct does not give us license to ignore the elements of the criminal statutes that Congress has established."
The court ruled that the indictment should be dismissed because Jackson had completed his travels and settled in Cambodia before the law was passed in 2003.
So, he's NOT a sleazy worm that should be punished and removed from society because he sold his stuff and moved before the US got around to making what he does where he does it punishable? PAAAAAAAALEASE!
And one more story of the truly ugly sort ...
Titled,
Cambodian thieves poison elephant", this makes me sick.
Thieves in Cambodia poisoned a 62-year-old domesticated elephant and sawed off its tusks to sell on the black market, officials said Tuesday.
Police found several empty packs of poison commonly used to kill rats near the dead elephant. They believe the thieves had doused jack fruit, a tropical fruit eaten by elephants, with the poison, Lee Sam Ol said.
Hor Ang, the province‘s deputy police chief, said the tusks could fetch up to $3,000 each in the illegal ivory trade.
I find it truly amazing ... and totally disgusting ... that anyone anywhere would still buy ivory.
But, then again, having sex with children doesn't make sense, either.
Sometimes I just have to sit back and wonder just what in the world is wrong with people ...
Sigh ...
