I would love someone to explain
THIS to me?

A story titled, "
Cambodia, U.S. joining hands in migration, trafficking issues" talks about a meeting between the Cambodian Foreign Affairs Minister Hor Namhong and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration Ellen Sauerbrey where the Cambodians enjoyed no shortage of great praise for work well done. Toward the end of the article is a very confusing kicker, that has me scratching my head and wondering just what the heck is going on, and WHY there's a suspension still in place ... after more than FIVE years ... that prevents Cambodian kids from any chance of joining an American family. (Wasn't trafficking the whole issue?)
Meanwhile, the U.S. official said in a press conference at the U.S. Embassy on Thursday that Washington ranks Cambodia second among Asian countries in its efforts to combat human trafficking ...
Second among Asian countries? Who's first? Singapore? Japan?
Of course, this is this week's story. Last week's was about
USAID cutting off money for trafficking, if you recall.
So, what is happening? Who knows. Apparently not the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration or the international media. I sure wish she'd have a little chat with whoever is keeping the suspension in place.
The US Navy
put in an appearance the country this week.
The
USS Gary pulled into the the port at Sihanoukville marking the first time an American warship has been to Cambodia since the Vietnam War.
The history behind the last time this happened is interesting, but sad, and the Americans who died then are the last names listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC.

Looking for support for one of the non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council, Cambodia is
trying to get support from Spain.
They would hold the position in question from 2013 to 2014, if they get it. The Spanish are opening an embassy in PP next year.
