There’s no shortage of adoption awareness this November. Anyone not aware that adoptions happen is either under the age of eighteen-months, deep into a long-term vegetative state, or … well, there is no or. It’s either one or the other of those simple scenarios.

Thanks to the global pap monster, adoption is the easy-topic-to-form-uneducated-opinions-about du jour, the half-digested flavor-of-the-month, the jump-on-the-irresponsible-and-oh-so-self-rightous band wagon.
Yes. We’re aware of adoption. We’re all aware of adoption.
That settled, can we move on to what we’re going to do with all the awareness?
First thing for me will be to take on the Adoption Institute’s alternate title for the month,”National Adoption Month” and drop the awareness altogether.
There may have been a time when the bulk of the population had little to no familiarity with adoption, but since Angelina and Madonna chose to parent children they didn’t make from scratch those days are gone.
Or perhaps I should just call it, Shut up if you don’t know what you’re talking about month?
How about, If you hate adoption so much, don’t do it month?
I’m rather fond of, So sorry you feel damaged, but that doesn’t mean you get to ruin everyone else’s life month.
And there’s always the classic, Wake up and smell the hopelessness month, to emphasize the fact that there are millions of children who could sorely use a family to love them.
Whatever …
I think I’ll mark the month by writing every day about issues important to the adoption world, to children, to parents and to anyone interested in reading my thoughts and the information I provide.
I’ll push for changes in the adoption laws and climate here in Seychelles in hopes that my efforts will encourage others to participate so eventually fewer children will suffer.
I will learn and I will educate. I will help when I can, direct others to others with resources better than mine, push where pushing is required, hold hands, empathize, dole out hugs, struggle with my own demons, and do the best I can.
Most importantly, I will love my family, adore my children and count every blessing that’s come my way.
Hey! I think I’ll do this all year long! There’s a thought …

I vote for “Shut up if you don’t know what you’re talking about” Month!
Oh, my, goddess, Sandra. You are spot on. Really, really good.
I like all of them.
Well said Sandra. You go girl!
Lisa
LOL! I think you can call it whatever you wanted but the majority of the world would still be going, “huh?”
You could be right, Peanut. We just may not be the brightest species on the planet …
