Doing my girl’s hair has been a fun but sometimes frustrating challenge for me. I have bought books, DVDs and watched online videos to try and learn all I can. I can do pretty good twists I must admit, but I have not mastered the cornrows by far. Honestly I cannot even tell they are cornrows, once I get done with them!
The girls have been with us for a year now. I have seen them braid each-others hair many times. They have watched me try and corn-row many, many times!
Tonight as I sat in front of my TV watching another DVD showing yet another cornrow technique the girls started laughing at me. All four of them were lovingly teasing and I happened to say to Mita,”Are you sure you don’t know how to cornrow?”. She laughed and said,”I know how to!”
She then promptly took over and finished the job I had been laboring over. Her fingers flew with expertise and and she was having a great time doing it. Of course! Hadn’t I seen pictures of all the girls in the children’s home? A big DUH for mom I guess.
So why had I not asked her before? Maybe I had and she didn’t understand me at the time, so I assumed she didn’t know.
Hubby of course pointed out that he had told me a long time ago that the girls probably had been doing their hair for a while on their own. I don’t remember him saying this, but to be fair he probably did. Also while I’m being fair, I will cut myself some slack considering that I have been a bit stressed lately!
So, my reasoning behind this post is to remind everyone that sometimes we forget to ask the basic of questions.
I wonder if I can sell the DVDs on EBay?
